Affiliation
The name Church of God, Anderson, Indiana
is used to identify this particular movement within Protestant
Christianity. The highlights concerning our affiliation
are as follows:
- Our earliest spokesman and “founding father”
was Daniel S. Warner, in the 1880’s
- The “calling out” of those in formalized
religions to be a part of the “reformation movement”
resulted in the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) being
formed.
- The name Church of God is used to identify congregations.
- A Church of God congregation is a neighborhood or community
embodiment of the universal Church and the Church of God
Reformation Movement (Anderson, Indiana).
- The local congregations of the Church of God are the basic
organizations of the larger Church.
- Each congregation contacts and calls its own pastor, establishes
its own organizational pattern with a set of by-laws, and
is not strictly controlled by any person or organization
outside of its own membership.
- The state and national organizations derive their strength
from local churches and the support they choose to give
and have no ecclesiastical authority over congregations
or district organizations.
- The Church of God movement maintains that the Bible is
our rule of faith and conduct. We believe the Bible is the
inspired Word of God and the foundation for instruction
in the Christian faith.
- The Ministries Council, and the Department of Ministries,
coordinates the work of the Church of God in the United
States, Canada, Kenya, Argentina, etc.
- The General Assembly of the Church of God meets in conjunction
with the International American Convention each June in
Anderson, Indiana. All ordained ministers present for the
Assembly are voting members.
- The General Assembly determines the general policy of
the cooperative work of the Church of God.
